The BEST of the BEST

Dr. Michael Dawson - the OB/GYN that we were fortunate enough to have deliver Malia - has publicly been recognized by the hundreds of Atlanta women who (graciously) spread their legs for him every day. (Oooh, that sounded kind of nasty!)

I'm thrilled, because he deserves every ounce of recognition that he's getting....I just hope it doesn't make it any harder to get an appointment with him.

I've witnessed nurses and patients who seem to fall apart in his presence -- or, should I say, melt. He's got a way about him -- his bedside manner is flawless, and he LISTENS. As soon as he enters the room, anyone with breasts seems to fluster, and the "Yes, doctor"s can't come quickly enough.

Without Dr. Dawson, I don't think I could have had a successful vaginal delivery with Malia. I sincerely believe that if he hadn't been the doctor on call, we'd have undergone a C-section.

He understood (and most importantly, respected) how important it was for me to have a vaginal delivery, as well as my COMPLETE UTTER AVERSION TO ALL NEEDLES. (I DO NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN TINY IV STICKS AND GIANT EPIDURAL NEEDLES. I HATE THEM ALL.) He was patient, kind, respectful, and attentive to me -- which profoundly impacted our entire experience (and, I'm sure, any future ones).

I'll spare you the details of my long, drawn-out induction and delivery -- but I couldn't go without giving some kudos to a doctor that I knew was amazing long before the rest of Atlanta discovered him.

We all laugh and say that it was simply a bonus that I was able to look at such a handsome man between my legs (during such a torturous time, at that). I just hope he set the bar high enough for my daughter -- being the first man she saw and all, ya'll.

LOVE Dr. Dawson! He delivered my baby, too. So calm and reassuring and funny. The nurses at Northside all raved that I had the "best" but of course, I already knew that!
